The importance of pre-competition training
The warm-up is a cardio-pulmonary precaution and a joint-muscular mobilization by which an athlete tries to put himself in the best personal conditions for a successful session of the sport concerned, in particular the absence of injury.
Physical preparation
A warm-up increases body temperature, which in turn improves muscular flexibility, nerve conduction speed and muscle strength. This prepares muscles, joints and the cardiorespiratory system for the effort ahead, reducing the risk of muscular injury.
Activating the cardiorespiratory system
Warming up stimulates the cardiorespiratory system, increasing blood flow to the muscles and improving the availability of oxygen and nutrients needed for performance.
Mental preparation
A warm-up also helps you to focus mentally on the competition ahead, by concentrating on the goals to be achieved.
Stress reduction
A warm-up helps to reduce the stress and anxiety associated with competition, by allowing athletes to familiarize themselves with the environment and playing conditions.
Coordination and technique
By performing discipline-specific exercises, warm-ups help improve coordination and technique.
